Mordechai Vanunu, was a technician at a secret nuclear weapons factory in the Middle East. At the same time he had been taking courses on philosophy and religion at a nearby university. He was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with his position in the factory and succeeded in covertly taking photos inside the plant.
Leaving his country with the evidence, he began a journey of self discovery that eventually led him to meet up with the same Father Dave, all but a student cleric, in seedy suburbs of inner city Sydney.
Their similar interests in philosophers, particularly Soren Kierkegaard, paved the way for a friendship that would soon prove to be life-long.
Only months later, Mordechai met up with London reporter Peter Hounam. With whom he traveled to London with, where his story and photographs were checked over by a British Nuclear Expert and given, without pay, to the Sunday Times in September 1986.
